One week later I still am trying to learn how this dashboard works. I am unsure how to do much more than post my blogs and respond to others. I will say I never realized that blogging involved more than just posting your thoughts. When reading a blog I just always thought, someone took their time to post their thoughts to a website which had blogs. I never knew you had to go an set up so many different features. Especially linking to other blogs wow, that was a struggle for me. I do see how blogs could be beneficial for education, especially for online learning. Blogs in the classroom can be used for Collaboration, Discussions, student profiles and classroom management. According to Teaching Today, "Blogs work Well for students because they can be worked on at virtually any time, in any place with an internet-enabled computer." (glencoe.com)
I think once you can get familiar with how to blog, all it can be used for, and feel comfortable utilizing all the tools it offers it will be great tool to use in the classroom.
The dashboard of Blogger.com does not have the title "dashboard" on the page. I did not at first realize that was the dashboard referred to in the text book until I notice that tab of my web browser had it there. I found that playing around with the features like Layout and setting made interesting changes to the blog. You can drag and drop gadgets to change their locations. You can add gadgets like blog archives, other bloggers etc.
ReplyDeletejust explore, you might like it.
I am still playing around with the settings daily to see what all can be done. I feel i am a slower learner with this lol. However, I like how you changed up your background I am working on that next!
DeleteLove the new look! I'm inspired :0)

I enjoyed reading your post! The linking to other blogs is difficult for me as well. I'm still trying to figure out the mystery with linking to Becky's blog.
ReplyDeleteBlogs can be used from anywhere and at any time! We can blog from a home computer, public computer, mobile device, etc. This reflects the path that our society is following - we live in a world where we can access information anywhere and at any time.
Our group discovered that it is impossible to link to a blog that does not yet have a post. I'm guessing that tidbit does not appear on many help sites because it is not often that people create an empty blog....
DeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteAs you have been exploring Blogger, have you thought of any ways you can use this tool within your classroom?
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a good to use in an English classroom to encourage writing, creativity and collaboration with peers. As I want to teach literature I think of ways to use it in a High School English class.
